July 17, 2025 Filed Under: Motocross, MXGP of Australia, News

Territory Dingoes Named as Official NT Team for the 2025 MA Motocross State Challenge at the MXGP of Australia

Motorcycling NT is proud to announce the selection of the Territory Dingoes, the Northern Territory’s official team for the inaugural MA Motocross State Challenge, held in conjunction with the MXGP of Australia World Championship at Hidden Valley Motorsport Complex in Darwin from September 19–21, 2025.

This national spotlight event brings together the top 84 junior motocross riders from across the country, competing in the MX85 (12–16 years) and MX3 (14–U18 years) classes. The Territory Dingoes will represent the NT against powerhouse teams from every other State Controlling Body in Australia.

“What better outlet to showcase Australia’s precocious young talent to the world than the MXGP of Australia,” said Motorcycling Australia CEO, Peter Doyle. “The MA Motocross State Challenge will kickstart what will be a jaw-dropping three days in the Top End.”

Meet the 2025 Territory Dingoes

MX85 (12–16 years)
Angus Ramsay – #110
Blake McVeigh – #174
Brodie Holmes – #194
Harry Steel – #176
Keeley Scott – #192
Rhys Gwynne – #198

MX3 (14–U18 years)
Banjo Williamson – #124
Ben MacFarlane – #146
Kenny Mackenzie – #118
Liam Gotts – #109
Mitchell Thorneycroft – #106
Noah Holton – #119

The team will be led by Team Manager Sally Woodhill, guided by Coach Tim Gwynne, and supported by a dedicated network of families, volunteers, and Motorcycling NT, all committed to developing and empowering the next generation of riders.

“This is a milestone event for our region,” said Sally Woodhill. “To lead this team of driven and talented young riders into a world-level competition, hosted on home soil, is a real privilege.”

Tim Gwynne added, “The calibre of this group is impressive. Our focus is on race readiness, confidence, and teamwork, and these competitors are ready to give it everything.”

Community Support Behind the Dingoes

The Territory Dingoes wouldn’t be possible without the generous support of sponsors who believe in empowering NT youth and motorsport development.

“We’re proud to back the Territory Dingoes as they take on this international stage,” said Dean Merryless, Director of Brutum Logistics. “These young riders represent everything great about the NT, commitment, resilience, and passion. Supporting grassroots sport is part of our DNA, and we can’t wait to cheer them on in September.”

Community Bank Coolalinga & Districts Bendigo Bank has also come on board as a proud sponsor of the team. “We are thrilled to support the Territory Dingoes and the broader motocross community,” said Steve Buethke, Branch Manager. “As a community bank, we believe in backing local dreams and creating opportunities. This event showcases not just great sport, but also great Territory spirit.”

The Territory Dingoes name was chosen to reflect the loyalty, toughness, and fighting spirit of Territory riders. These values will be on full display as the NT team hits the all-new 1.6km motocross track at Hidden Valley, the same circuit that will host elite riders from the FIM Motocross World Championship classes: MXGP, MX2, and WMX.

Motorcycling NT CEO, Cilla Thomas, says the Territory Dingoes’ selection is a significant step forward in promoting high-performance pathways for local riders.

“The creation of the Territory Dingoes is a celebration of our youth, our sport, and the Territory’s riding culture,” said Ms Thomas. “To have our juniors compete during the return of the MXGP to Australia after 24 years is historic. We’re excited to see our local talent step up to the gate in front of a global audience.”

The MX85 riders will be the first on track on Friday, 19 September, followed by MX3 qualifying and racing across Friday and Saturday.

Opening Round of the 2025 Holeshot Yamaha Thumpers Breaks Records for Darwin Motorcycle Club

Darwin, NT – March 2, 2025 – The opening round of the 2025 Holeshot Yamaha Thumpers series has set a new milestone for the Darwin Motorcycle Club (DMCC). With a staggering 149 riders registered, the event saw over 200 bikes racing across multiple classes, showcasing the growing popularity of motorcycling in the Northern Territory.

This milestone event not only showcased exceptional talent but also demonstrated the ongoing expansion of the sport. In a bid to further enhance inclusivity and provide more opportunities for young female riders, Motorcycling NT (MNT) introduced a combined Junior Girls class for season 2025 which DMCC included in their schedule. This welcomed addition was warmly received, highlighting the commitment of the club to support and nurture the next generation of female motorcyclists.

In addition to the exciting introduction of the Junior Girls class, the 50cc category saw extraordinary growth. Both the competitive and non-competitive 50cc classes experienced a surge in participation, with even six-year-olds now emerging as competitive racers, demonstrating a bright future for the sport. These young riders are proof of the thriving talent pool in the region and the strong foundation DMCC has built for future generations of motorcycling enthusiasts.

Despite the challenging extreme heat, the event was enjoyed by all. Riders, families, and spectators alike were undeterred, with a large crowd turning out to cheer on the competitors. The atmosphere at the track was nothing short of electric, with families, friends, and fans creating an exciting and supportive environment for the riders.

MNT would like to extend its heartfelt congratulations to DMCC for its record-breaking turnout and success in the opening round of the 2025 series. The effort and dedication of the club members have been instrumental in making this event such a resounding success.

A special thank you goes out to all the volunteers, officials, and St. John Ambulance NT personnel who devoted their Sunday to ensuring the event ran smoothly and safely. Their dedication, expertise, and commitment to the well-being of the participants and spectators are deeply appreciated.

Thank you to all the sponsors whose generous support made this event possible. Their commitment to the sport and the community is invaluable, and their contributions play a key role in ensuring the continued growth and success of motorcycling in the Northern Territory.

We would also like to acknowledge the photographers (Denise and Peter Troon) whose stunning images captured the energy and excitement of the event.

As the Holeshot Yamaha Thumpers series progresses, MNT looks forward to more thrilling rounds hosted by DMCC that will continue to inspire new talent and grow the sport in the Northern Territory.

Each State/Territory team manager must engage in a thorough analysis of qualifying times, as well as the strengths and weaknesses of their own competitors and those of other state competitors. This intricate process ensures that the selected athletes not only demonstrate individual excellence but also take into account the selection of other competitors within their classes by other managers.

A special mention to all the riders who travelled to WA to fight for a place in the top 40 and just missed out in their respective classes including #112 Kingsley Potts and #126 Floyd Williamson. Your determination and effort have not gone unnoticed, and your dedication to the sport is truly commendable. Keep pushing forward, and we look forward to seeing you back on the track, stronger and more determined than ever.

We extend our best wishes to all competitors for a safe journey back to Darwin, Alice Springs, and Nhulunbuy, and a speedy recovery to our injured riders as they prepare for future competitions.
