Bosnakis Leads Gaisford in ATV MX Nats Battle

October 6, 2018 Filed Under: ATV, News

DAY One of the ATV Motocross Nationals kicked off at Collie Motorcycle Club’s Stockton Park Circuit earlier today under perfect weather conditions leaving the viewing aspect nearly as spectacular as the racing itself.

With many competitors and spectators camping together at the picturesque track since Thursday and after the previous days “Meet and Greet”, the atmosphere was unusually relaxed for a National Championship as practise and qualifying got underway.

An action packed day of racing proceeded from there with all classes racing two rounds on Day One. The racing was fast, the track prepped perfectly and after a few deep ruts formed the competitors gave the spectators the thrills, and a few minor spills, that they came to see.

Excitement replaced any residual nerves and tension once the riders headed into round one of racing which began with the crowd thrilling “Hole Shot Heroes” followed by the rising star classes of the 50cc Demo and the Jumbo Demo class and the 200 Air Cooled Only support class before the championship rounds began.

Junior Support 200cc Air Cooled Only

Pos         Competitor                                                         Total Points         R1             R2

1              60                           BROOKE HALL                                 67           32              35

2              41                           SIENNA COMITO                              67           35              32

3              36                           ISABELLE MATON                            60           30              30

Young Isabelle Maton, rider #36 from Wanneroo Junior MCC, competed in the Air cooled class today and showed a level of strength and determination that left commentators, spectators and fellow competitors in awe after a racing incident saw her struggling to complete her race.

During Isabelle’s ordeal she never gave up even though she was very emotional and exhausted but the crowd and the commentators encouraged her all the way, later in the day Isabelle spoke about what had happened.

“In Race 2 today I managed to push my 250cc Raptor to its limits, coming around a corner in my first lap I managed to fight my way through a tangle of bikes. I was running 2nd behind the leader who I managed to overtake and push myself to 1st for the whole lap. I was then overtaken by another competitor putting me back to 2nd spot.”

“After holding onto 2nd I was then battling to hold onto this position with the rider right behind me. Unfortunately I found myself bottomed out in the deep, wet sand of Collie. I tried my hardest to push, pull, lift and bump my bike but it would not shift. Once I was found some extra muscles I was able to cross the finish line. I never gave up I was determined to the end”.

Commentator Len Huff stated after the incident, “You don’t see determination like that anymore, very rare indeed!”

When asked what she liked so much about racing quads, Isabelle said “I love racing my quad because it’s exciting and I get to spend time with my friends and family that have the same interests”.

The 60cc to 90cc Competition Class kicked of the beginning of the ATV MX National Championships for 2018 and after each class completing two thrill seeking championship rounds this is how the end of day one panned out:

The Stockton Park circuit consists of sand, gravel and clay, is approximately 1.8km long and is regarded as a reasonably technical track and is extremely challenging. Although the track is being prepped again tonight, deep ruts have formed and the racing will be tougher and less predictable.

One of tomorrow’s undoubtable and ongoing battles will be between long-time rivals Luke Gaisford and Christopher Bosnakis.

Christopher ended today in the lead by only 3 points and said afterwards “I am off to a really good start. I am going to carry this momentum into tomorrow and hopefully get the championship back”

Luke Gaisford, the 2017 Australian ATV MX #1, commented this evening, “ Day one was good with 2nd place finishes. We have three motos tomorrow and I’m hoping to get some wins in tomorrow”

Luke who has travelled the world competing and won multiple state and national ATV Quad Championships and Sportsman of the Year Awards also said, “Motocross is a family activity and one of the most exciting features of an event like this is the opportunity to camp out at the track with family and friends”!

With strong contenders in all classes and many of the racers having previous nationals experience, tomorrow’s racing promises to be even more exciting, kicking off with the Pro Championship Class.

Now that Day One is out the way riders are primed and ready to do battle with Australia’s Best and to see who will be crowned the next Australian ATVMX champion in their respective classes.

Member for Collie-Preston and Minister for Sport and Recreation, Mick Murray, accepted an invitation to officially attend the 2018 ATV MX Nationals and will be present to award trophies at the trophy presentations at the conclusion of the event tomorrow evening.

Collie to play host to Australia’s best quad bike riders

October 5, 2018 Filed Under: ATV, News

Australia’s top riders — including Luke Gaisford, Chris Bosnakis, Jake Van Vliet, Cody Lincoln and Jae Dowsett — will compete for national titles at Collie’s Stockton Park track on October 5-7, 2018.

Australia’s best quad bike riders will converge on Collie this weekend with the town set to play host to the All-Terrain Vehicle Motocross Nationals.

Star competitors including Luke Gaisford, Chris Bosnakis and Jake Van Vliet will be some of the riders competing for the title of Australia’s best at the Stockton Park track from October 5th to 7th.

Returning to Western Australia for the first time since 2011, the event will be hosted by Quad Riders Western Australia and the Collie Motorcycle Club and will feature races from a range of classes, including the pro, veterans and women’s championships.

The 1.6 kilometre track is set on the banks of the picturesque Stockton Lake, offering an ideal opportunity for spectators to camp at the on-site facilities, watch the racing events and enjoy Collie’s natural surroundings.

Sport and Recreation Minister and Collie-Preston MLA Mick Murray said hosting the event would be a big achievement for Collie.

“Collie is a proud motorsport town and we are delighted to have the countries best in our backyard to battle it out next month,” he said.

“This is a great opportunity for visitors to spend the weekend camping by the beautiful blue Lake Stockton, enjoying the events, and taking in all of the unspoilt natural surroundings that the region has to offer.

“It’s going to be a very, very big event. We’ve got people travelling from all over Australia and even one competitor from Italy.

Mr Murray said the event would provide a huge economic boost for the Collie community.
“There are many different benefits including the economic benefit that will come with about 1000 people turning up throughout the week and spending money in the town,” he said.

“It’s something that not only the government has been pushing but also the shire, working to make sure Collie is on the events calendar.

“It’s about jobs for the future, if we can be on the circuit for events, which will certainly create jobs in town.”

Quad Riders Western Australia president Michael Harcourt said it was a natural choice to bring the competition to Collie.

“It was an obvious choice for us,” he said.

“The facilities are absolutely brilliant. Everyone enjoys the track, it’s a really fast track to ride and it’s really good facilities.”

Mr Harcourt said anyone turning up for the event could expect a weekend full of ‘fast-paced action’.

“The ATVs these days are nothing like the farm quads you see out in the paddocks,” he said.

“It’s something that’s a little bit different for people watch, everyone’s seen motocross before, we do all the same jumps and turns but on 4 wheels and it’s really exciting to watch.”

Multiple time national champion Chris Bosnakis said he was hoping to see the community get behind the event.

“The more people that come out, the better, it’s going to be a great show,” he said.

The event will attract about 400-500 visitors to Collie, with 85 competitors, support staff, friends and family set to converge on the town for the weekend’s action — including 25 interstate competitors and their teams, one of these teams being 4TEEN Industries.

4TEEN Industries
All of the 4TEEN Industries riders will compete at the Australian ATV MX Nationals this weekend October 6th and 7th in Western Australia at the Collie Motorcycle Club, Stockton Park.

The Pro Class will see Luke Gaisford, Blake Croonen and Jakob Bosustow, Intermediates – Colin Balshaw, Luke Capogreco and Zac Croonen, while Mike Croonen will compete in the Vets, and David Norman will be on the Clubman grid. Brooke Hollins will compete in both the junior 250cc classes.

All of our team members have been racing this year and enjoying the WA MX Championships, along with weekends of social rides at some of the ride parks, farms and local ride areas.

Luke Gaisford stated he had really enjoyed this year’s social rides as it was a great way to get in training along with increasing the skill levels of the youngsters, while still getting fitter and having fun. The team love getting out for a ride on the weekend, and we all really appreciate everyone who allows us to ride at their properties and the clubs who welcome us at their tracks.

We all look forward to this weekend’s Nationals, and the camping out, and supporting one another on the track; we hope everyone from WA achieves their goals

See you in Collie everyone

The MA Alliance Explained: Q&A Part 1

September 7, 2018 Filed Under: ATV, Classic Motocross, Dirt Track, Enduro, Historic Road Racing, Important Announcements, Minikhana, Motocross, News, Officials, Road Race, Road Racing, Speedway, Supercross, Supermoto, Track, Trial, Veterans

What’s in it for me? No doubt the first question you asked when the Motorcycling Australia (MA) Alliance Agreement (AA) was announced.

You, as members of MA are at the heart of the agreement. We aim to provide an economic and safe environment for participants and volunteers from all the various disciplines, whether you are a racer, a social rider, or even just an interested observer.

There are a lot of challenges and opportunities facing motorcycling in Australia – rising costs, more stringent safety requirements (higher insurance premiums), the lure of other activities (decreasing member base) and changing requirements of our riders – more ride parks, adventure riding, dirt bike rallies, ride days etc. These are real issues facing the sport which need to be faced as a cohesive team.

For quite some time all of the State Controlling Boards (SCBs) have thought long and hard about the most effective and efficient way to address these challenges and opportunities.

To retain the SCB’s autonomy (direct accountability to their members and securing their assets) while gaining the benefits of acting nationally – reduced duplication, standardising process and products, providing a national voice in support of the sport we love, the SCB’s and MA have agreed to form an Alliance where each member has an equal voice and commits to work together to achieve what’s best for motorcycling.

At this point, Motorcycling Victoria have elected not to participate in this Alliance, however we remain hopeful that they will join in the future to ensure a truly single voice in order for motorcycling to prosper in Australia.”

To stay up to date with everything involved in the new MA Alliance, head to our website, Facebook and Instagram.
