Collie to play host to Australia’s best quad bike riders

October 5, 2018 Filed Under: ATV, News

Australia’s top riders — including Luke Gaisford, Chris Bosnakis, Jake Van Vliet, Cody Lincoln and Jae Dowsett — will compete for national titles at Collie’s Stockton Park track on October 5-7, 2018.

Australia’s best quad bike riders will converge on Collie this weekend with the town set to play host to the All-Terrain Vehicle Motocross Nationals.

Star competitors including Luke Gaisford, Chris Bosnakis and Jake Van Vliet will be some of the riders competing for the title of Australia’s best at the Stockton Park track from October 5th to 7th.

Returning to Western Australia for the first time since 2011, the event will be hosted by Quad Riders Western Australia and the Collie Motorcycle Club and will feature races from a range of classes, including the pro, veterans and women’s championships.

The 1.6 kilometre track is set on the banks of the picturesque Stockton Lake, offering an ideal opportunity for spectators to camp at the on-site facilities, watch the racing events and enjoy Collie’s natural surroundings.

Sport and Recreation Minister and Collie-Preston MLA Mick Murray said hosting the event would be a big achievement for Collie.

“Collie is a proud motorsport town and we are delighted to have the countries best in our backyard to battle it out next month,” he said.

“This is a great opportunity for visitors to spend the weekend camping by the beautiful blue Lake Stockton, enjoying the events, and taking in all of the unspoilt natural surroundings that the region has to offer.

“It’s going to be a very, very big event. We’ve got people travelling from all over Australia and even one competitor from Italy.

Mr Murray said the event would provide a huge economic boost for the Collie community.
“There are many different benefits including the economic benefit that will come with about 1000 people turning up throughout the week and spending money in the town,” he said.

“It’s something that not only the government has been pushing but also the shire, working to make sure Collie is on the events calendar.

“It’s about jobs for the future, if we can be on the circuit for events, which will certainly create jobs in town.”

Quad Riders Western Australia president Michael Harcourt said it was a natural choice to bring the competition to Collie.

“It was an obvious choice for us,” he said.

“The facilities are absolutely brilliant. Everyone enjoys the track, it’s a really fast track to ride and it’s really good facilities.”

Mr Harcourt said anyone turning up for the event could expect a weekend full of ‘fast-paced action’.

“The ATVs these days are nothing like the farm quads you see out in the paddocks,” he said.

“It’s something that’s a little bit different for people watch, everyone’s seen motocross before, we do all the same jumps and turns but on 4 wheels and it’s really exciting to watch.”

Multiple time national champion Chris Bosnakis said he was hoping to see the community get behind the event.

“The more people that come out, the better, it’s going to be a great show,” he said.

The event will attract about 400-500 visitors to Collie, with 85 competitors, support staff, friends and family set to converge on the town for the weekend’s action — including 25 interstate competitors and their teams, one of these teams being 4TEEN Industries.

4TEEN Industries
All of the 4TEEN Industries riders will compete at the Australian ATV MX Nationals this weekend October 6th and 7th in Western Australia at the Collie Motorcycle Club, Stockton Park.

The Pro Class will see Luke Gaisford, Blake Croonen and Jakob Bosustow, Intermediates – Colin Balshaw, Luke Capogreco and Zac Croonen, while Mike Croonen will compete in the Vets, and David Norman will be on the Clubman grid. Brooke Hollins will compete in both the junior 250cc classes.

All of our team members have been racing this year and enjoying the WA MX Championships, along with weekends of social rides at some of the ride parks, farms and local ride areas.

Luke Gaisford stated he had really enjoyed this year’s social rides as it was a great way to get in training along with increasing the skill levels of the youngsters, while still getting fitter and having fun. The team love getting out for a ride on the weekend, and we all really appreciate everyone who allows us to ride at their properties and the clubs who welcome us at their tracks.

We all look forward to this weekend’s Nationals, and the camping out, and supporting one another on the track; we hope everyone from WA achieves their goals

See you in Collie everyone

Australian Junior Track Championships Tamworth – This Weekend – October 6 / 7

October 4, 2018 Filed Under: News, Track

As the country’s best young motocross riders complete their week-long national title shootout the dirt track brigade will gather in Tamworth this weekend for the 2018 Australian Junior Track Championship meeting.

The Tamworth Club’s Oakburn Park track is the venue for yet another title meeting which is sure to provide plenty of excitement across Saturday and Sunday.

Riders are travelling from Queensland, Victoria and South Australia as well as all over New South Wales to take part in the meeting.

The ‘double’ of success in the same class at both dirt track and track competition is always a particular goal so winners from the Australian Junior Dirt Track Championships completed in August will be in the spotlight.

But for those who were not successful in August, they will be hell-bent on revenge this weekend.

Riders in the 13 to 16 years age bracket invariably attract the most attention and this action looms as a battle between three states.

Queenslander Cyshan Weale was the stand-out performer at the Australian Junior Dirt Track Championship meeting, but when he missed last month’s New South Wales Junior Dirt Track Championships it was Kurri rider Ryan Smith who stepped up to score a hat-trick of class wins.

But this weekend will not just be a Weale versus Smith battle given the presence of the likes of Queenslanders Tristan Adamson, Rowan Miller and Hunter Penhallurick, Victorians Max Berry and Remmie Fyffe, plus Kurri duo Harrison Ryan and Jayden Rodgers and Gunnedah rider Tom Donnelly.

In the younger age brackets Gold Coast rider Riley Nauta, Kempsey’s Jayden Holder, Kurri rider Cameron Dunker and Archie McDonald from Albury-Wodonga are all striving to back up wins in the national Dirt Track titles.

Jayden Holder is attempting to make it a double in the 85cc 4-str. Modified class for 7- Under 10s, but on his 65cc machine he has stepped up from the 7 to Under 9s and this weekend will contest the 9 to Under 13s where he will face the likes of Dunker and McDonald.

Another Gold Coast duo Harrison Voight and Rory McQualter, Victorians Jackson Milner and Zane Kinna, Mitch Bisley and Hayden Nelson from Taree, Beau Bailey from Forbes and Noah Grabham from Cowra will all be out to improve on minor placings in recent championship outings.

Aussies set to topple American star at Australian Supercross in Coolum

October 4, 2018 Filed Under: News, Supercross

A cast of Aussie riders are set to take it to American ace Justin Brayton as Round 2 of the Australian Supercross Championship heads to Coolum this Saturday.

With Brayton leading the way after winning Round 1 in Jimboomba, three Australians still remain hot on his heels in the chase for the championship.

One rider looking to topple Brayton and ensure the Australian Supercross Championship lands back in Aussie hands for 2018 is New South Welshman Luke Clout, who currently sits third in the rider standings.

“I’ll just need to get a good start and be with him, he’s [Brayton] a really good rider who seems to step it up when you think you’re getting closer to him,” Clout said.

“I think I can definitely stay with Justin, It will be another thing to beat him but I think it’s realistic to be there and fight with him for 20-laps and take it to him cleanly.”

Despite this being his first year on a 450 bike, Clout says he’s feeling especially confident on the more powerful Factory KTM 450-SXF and is feeling confident he can push for the win in Coolum.

“I’ve really felt comfortable since day one riding the KTM in Supercross, we’ve done literally one day of testing and haven’t changed anything since, the more time I’m spending on it the better I’m getting and more comfortable I’m getting,”

“I feel like I’m riding a lot better than I was at Jimboomba, I feel like i’ve picked it up again. I’m really happy with how i’m going with my fitness and how everything with the team is going, so yeah just really excited to go back racing.”

Round two of the 2018 Australian Supercross Championship at Coolum Pines MX complex on October 6 will be staged as a daytime meeting, the new family-friendly daylight format being popularly received at the Jimboomba championship opener.

Gates will be open from 10am, with a Pit Party kicking off from 1.30pm where fans can meet the stars of supercross, and main event racing roaring into life from 2.30pm.
